Hey Guys! My name is Casie Congdon, and I am a junior here majoring in disability services and minoring in both deaf ed and special ed.  I feel that this experience is going to be rather exciting and I look forward to helping you guys in anyway possible.  I feel the best way I can assist you all is through encouragement and understanding… I’ve been there :-) … I look forward to working with you all and hope you enjoy this class!

After reading LaMott’s shitty first draft I realize that I can make a lot of connection to the Monomyth. It did take a little thinking but once it came to me, it was like a light turned on. This is really neat how you can make connections to the reading and to the Monomyth.

In LaMott’s reading you see her explain how writers don’t just sit down and write something. That when they write it just doesn’t come out perfectly, that it takes a lot of time and effort and that it’s kind of a never ending cycle. This resembles the Monomyth a lot because you have the call to write but you can choose to accept or decline the call. If you then choose to write or your call you may go through a road of trials such as writer’s block, or you may just not like what you wirte. So then you want to give up but you maybe lucky enough to find  inspiration to your story also known as supernatural aid. These are just a few similarities of the writing process and the Monomyth. I’m sure if we really sat back and thought about it I’m positive we could find a way to similarities in the Monomyth and the writing at every stage.

This honestly is really neat to be able to put what we have been learning into an everyday idea. The more and more I look around I see just how much the Monoyth plays into our lives.

Poem #20- Finals

Stress is overwhelming me

But I know it soon will be over

i just pray that I pass

And as I look forward the end of the tunnel is so bright!

It makes me blink because it is the first time I have seen the light

since we came back to school.

I breathe a sigh of relief and puch ahead.

Smelling the food

Hearing the laughing

Seeing the smiles

Feeling the hugs

It makes me realize that nothing I have done

makes me any less in their eyes

and it’s at that moment I realize

I’m right where I need to be.

Never Finished

always striving to become better

to become stronger

Never finshed

Never giving up on this dream I’ve been dreaming

Just push a little more, run a little farther, never look back

because all of the tears and sweat I’ve poured

is making the dream into a reality

Poem for tonight is on : a time when you felt you weren't finished with something ex: a painter is never truly happy or finished with a painting.

HAVE A GREAT BREAK

“This Is Your Life” by Switchfoot

yesterday is a wrinkle on your forehead
yesterday is a promise that you’ve broken
don’t close your eyes, don’t close your eyes
this is your life and today is all you’ve got now
yeah, and today is all you’ll ever have
don’t close your eyes
don’t close your eyes

this is your life, are you who you want to be
this is your life, are you who you want to be
this is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
when the world was younger and you had everything to lose

yesterday is a kid in the corner
yesterday is dead and over

this is your life, are you who you want to be
this is your life, are you who you want to be
this is your life, is it everything you dreamed that it would be
when the world was younger and you had everything to lose

don’t close your eyes
don’t close your eyes
don’t close your eyes
don’t close your eyes

this is your life are you who you want to be
this is your life are you who you want to be

this is your life, are you who you want to be
this is your life, are you who you want to be
this is your life, is it everything you dreamed it would be
when the world was younger and you had everything to lose

and you had everything to lose

Break Away by Kelly Clarkson

Breakaway lyrics

Grew up in a small town
And when the rain would fall down
I’d just stare out my window
Dreaming of what could be
And if I’d end up happy
I would pray (I would pray)

Trying hard to reach out
But when I tried to speak out
Felt like no one could hear me
Wanted to belong here
But something felt so wrong here
So I prayed I could break away

[Chorus:]
I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly
I’ll do what it takes til’ I touch the sky
And I’ll make a wish
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won’t forget all the ones that I love
I’ll take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway

Wanna feel the warm breeze
Sleep under a palm tree
Feel the rush of the ocean
Get onboard a fast train
Travel on a jet plane, far away (I will)
And breakaway

[Chorus]

Buildings with a hundred floors
Swinging around revolving doors
Maybe I don’t know where they’ll take me but
Gotta keep moving on, moving on
Fly away, breakaway

I’ll spread my wings
And I’ll learn how to fly
Though it’s not easy to tell you goodbye
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway
Out of the darkness and into the sun
But I won’t forget the place I come from
I gotta take a risk
Take a chance
Make a change
And breakaway, breakaway, breakaway

Notes from week 13A

Many times in movies there isn't a point where the character experiences becoming the master of two worlds unless there is a sequel.

The master of two worlds are similar and different in their own respect when you see the two together.

An example where you see the master of two worlds is in the book Redneck Woman by Gretchen Wilson. She is a perfect example of rags to riches but
is able to remain the same person. She came from crap but made it to the big time and is able to be happy with both worlds.

Being a master if two worlds is when the hero is finally able to be happy with both his new life and his own life. He or she is able to be comfortable in that state. When I tried to think about when I have been a master of two worlds college and home were the only thing that came to my mind. I honestly am surprised how much college has ben a part of this lit class and how much of an impact it has had on me.

I am a master of two worlds. The way I know this is how I am comfortable in both my old life, or hometown and how I am so comfortable here at school. It truly is interesting being able to see how I can bounce back and forth from home and school and it seems like I haven’t even been gone a day. What I think is really impressing is that you can see how well I bounce back and forth and I have only made it home once so far this year.

I believe that it’s a good thing being able to be comfortable in both your old and new world, because it shows that you have control over your life. I think this part of the monomyth is very interesting because I can really see how it comes in to play in my life.

Poem # 17- Dream

DREAM

DREAM BIG for you can take it

DREAM WILD for you can make it
